Week of March 21

Since I have been out sick this week I have not updated the blog. Students should have visual terms for section 7-1 and 7-2 completed. They should also have Cornell Notes Completed for 7-1 and 7-2. They have been assigned Workbook pages 112 to 119 so far. We have also cleaned out the binders this week by stapling all the work to each of the three table of contents for quarter 3. If students have not turned in all of the completed work yet they can go to my stpeter.pbworks.com site and print out the INB TOC, here is the link to the page http://www.snix.me?k. We have started discussing Evolution and have talked about who Charles Darwin was from a historical perspective and his contribution to the biological science community. We will continue to explore his ideas from a scientific point of view. The California State Standards from the Science Framework is what is required on the topic of Evolution. Biological evolution accounts for the diversity of species developed through gradual processes over many generations. As a basis for understanding this concept:
a. Students know both genetic variation and environmental factors are causes of evolution and diversity of organisms.
b. Students know the reasoning used by Charles Darwin in reaching his conclusion that natural selection is the mechanism of evolution. c.Students know how independent lines of evidence from geology, fossils, and comparative anatomy provide the bases for the theory of evolution.
d. Students know how to construct a simple branching diagram to classify living groups of organisms by shared derived characteristics and how to expand the diagram to include fossil organisms.
e. Students know that extinction of a species occurs when the environment
changes and the adaptive characteristics of a species are insufficient for its survival.
Have a great weekend.
